Hi,
Please help me out here, just got my new chicks this morning, two - three day olds. One of the babies his legs keep going all the way apart so he can't stand up right, then I have a couple others that seem weak and are just laying there. I dipped there beaks in water with Quik Chik and they are warm and have food and medicated starter. I have the puppy pads on the brooder floor. I don't have any of the PolyVisol vitamins to give them.

Can you please help?

I haven't had the leg thing before but do a search on spraddle legs. You use a bandaid and people have had great success with it from what I've read. Also, sometimes it takes a day or so after you get them to have a lot of energy and run around. Good luck.

thanks so much, I tried the bandaid thing and he got so upset and started flopping all around and peeping so I took it off! I don't know what to do maybe give him this day and see if he gets up on his own. I'll just have to make sure he gets a drink if he can't get to it and keep a close eye on him. I have food sprinkled on the floor. I will see what else I can find out, I'll do the search for that.

Make sure the puupy pads are not too slippery.
Maybe give them an egg for added protein.
I have never used bandaides for spraddle legs, but another remedy is tying soft wool around the legs together in a figure eight.
However, I think that might upset it too.

Upset is ok . Stressed is not. use the bandaid or wool to make a little brace. you can do a search on here for spraddle leg. Also, The electrolytes and vitamins in the water is good. Give them hard boiled egg too. Keep the brooder at 96 - 98 degrees. And put in an old sock like a nest so they can cuddle with it if they want. Pine shavings are a good floor covering. That's what most use. NOT cedar.
They are newborns and will sleep alot. They will eventually get to be more active. They also sleep in weird positions, so don't be alarmed.
You can put sugar in the water. Just sugar and water. That helped me.
