New Chick Question

Im new here and new to chickens. I will probably be asking a lot of dumb questions.

First one:

Is it problematic that one of my Buff Orpington Chicks terrorizes the other chicks by pecking their feet? It’s pretty constant and three of the chicks are brahmas so they have feathers. Do I need to separate the trouble maker? They are less than a week old.

My chicks pecked each other for the first few days until they learned what food is. What are the dimensions of your brooder? Do the other chicks have enough space to get away from the others if they need to?

There is probably two things going on, feathered feet fascination and or pecking order. Both are very normal, watch for bleeding toes. It should start to stop as they get older.

Brooder is 6ft sq. 5 chicks less than a week old.

Maybe it is just pecking order. It’s been funny to watch. One of my buff brahmas is a cockerel and I think on day two he was terrorizing everyone. And now today it’s been one of the buff orpingtons.

I also have two 2 month old BSL already outside. So in a couple of months I’ll have to figure out how to introduce the five younger ones.

You'll get lots of advice here about integrating your flock!

I don't know if it's pecking order or not. They are so young, they are still figuring out which end is up, and as @FowlWitch mentioned, what food is. The feathered feet would fascinate me, so I'm sure they fascinate your little BOs. If the feet bleed, separate the bleeders. The little blood spots make prime pecking targets, and they could get injured.

Now I must confess I'm new to chickens too, but I read a lot! Mostly here.

I'm a first timer, too! My chicks are five weeks old now, but I remember when they were only a week or two they would peck at anything that looked interesting! Enjoy your babies! ( I have a couple of buff brahmas and also buff orpingtons - I love them both!)

No, they're chicks they peck everything it is how they discover and learn.
Remember they don't have hands, the beak is all they have but it is very sensitive to touch.... pretty much a big face finger.
Unless they're hurting each other don't worry.

Yes..Chicks without a Momma don't know what's good and what's not...So it usually takes a day or two to figure things out..
