Hi all! I'm new to Charlotte NC area...and new to raising chickens. I have 2 laying hens and we're getting a couple chicks this weekend, if we can find them. Seems our local hardware store sells out in about 2 hours before I can even drop my kiddos off at school and get in there.
My DH, on the other hand, has plenty of experience. When he was a boy, my MIL decided to quit her full-time job as a nurse and stay home to raise her 4 boys. Well my FIL thought she didn't have enough to do just being home all day with 4 boys, so he bought some chickens. 2000 of them to be exact! You have to know my FIL was raised in the old guard and things were done differently back then. My DH wouldn't eat eggs the first few years of our marriage!!!
My kiddos have been begging to raise chickens cause it was the "in" thing to do out west where were from. Now here in NC, we bought a place with land and an established chicken coop and chickens with it. I'm sure I'll be frequenting the boards, even if I'm just reading and browsing. Looks like there is LOTS of experience found on here. Very cool!
