My new chicks are six days old now and getting boistrous and cheep through the night (not the warning sound/angry cheep, but the 'I'm bored and like the sound of my own voice' cheep, from what I can tell).
Last night for approx 2 hours the little Ameraucana would cheep and cheep until I went to the brooder and peeked in. They calmed down as long as I was standing there, but not long after I went back to bed they got fussy again!
So today I created a youtube playlist of broody hen and hens with chicks sounds, and it seems to be doing the trick!
They perk up, head to the side of the brooder closest to the sound, and happily scratch, eat and fall asleep! Cutest thing!
I may try this again tonight to see if I can get them to sleep at a normal time. I wonder if the brooder light throws off their sense of time, day/night?
