new chick with swollen/enlarged eye

I just picked up my chicks today and noticed that one of them has a swollen/enlarged eye.

It opens the eye some, but mostly keeps it shut.

He/she is very active, eating and drinking, etc.. There is no discharge from the eye but I wiped it with a soft, wet cloth. Is there anything I should put on it or wash it out with? Is it possible that this could be contagious to the other 7 chicks? I'll post a picture when I'm able to.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

It probably just got pecked so it shouldn't spread to the other chicks. If the chick is acting normal, I wouldn't do anything unless it gets worse or if the other chicks start going after her.

I think she was probably pecked at too, hopefully the rest of yours wll cut her a break and leave it alone if not just put up a small divider in your brooder for a while till she gets some rest and it looks normal!

Do you have a red heat lamp. It might help the others NOT to notice the difference... Does that make sense?

Yup! I do have a heat lamp on them with a red bulb. I've not seen anyone peck at him/her or each other at all for that matter.

They are just SO precious! Everyone was perfectly fine this morning. If anything the eye looked a tad better this morning. Will keep a watch on it for sure.
