How long will a hen keep a new chick in the nest. I think the chick is onr day old. I have heard it but haven't seen it.She is sitting on two other eggs.

A hen will usually stay on the nest for 24 to 48 hours after the first chick hatches. This gives the eggs time to hatch, and the already-hatched chicks have at least 2 days of stored yolk to live on during this time. If all of the eggs were set at the same time, they should hatch within about 24 hours of each other.

She'll know when it's time to get up....just have some feed and water at chicks level so she can show them how to eat and drink.
