New Chicken Behavior

My chickens are now 6 1/2 months old. Just as of today, when I reach out my hand to one of them, they squat down. What does this mean?

It mean's that if they aren't laying yet, that they soon will be.

eggs soon! out of the three of mine, only one is laying and has been for around a month now. she laid her first egg around a week after squatting for the first time, but all chickens are different! could take days, or maybe even a couple weeks and some might not even squat at all.

When mine do that I give them a few pets & treats...it usually happens whenever I bring mealworms. I noticed the Roo wants to run over & jump on their back, too. I've seen them do that for the Roos, or when being submissive to an older bossy hen as well.
