New chicken enthusiast

Just my two cents, but chicks don't take much time at all and the rearing process can be the most rewarding part. More so than the first egg, even. Tractor supply is a pretty decent place to pick up peeps and if your local store is anything like mine, has workers with a good knowledge of the breeds and requirements for raising them in your area. All that said, welcome to the joys of hobby farming!

Hey everyone, I have a follow up. Is it better to buy chicks or to buy eggs and hatch them? I was speaking with an individual who has raised chickens from hatching and they said that the chickens will be more attached to you if you hatch them and they see you when they come out of the egg. Is this true at all? I bought two ducks from tractor supply and they are not attached to me, they do not come to me, they actually run away. Would hatching make a difference? Is it easy enough for a new chicken owner to do? Thank you!!

You can still imprint by holding them and talking to them they will eventually look at you as mommy and a protector then something they don't know. Hold them once or twice a day. I pet mine while they are on the ground like a cat, and mine seem to imprint and like being petted with out holding but each chicken is different. Ducks are the same way! I talk to my flock all the time and sometimes sing to them, yes i'm coo coo! Hope it helps!
