Hello! I'm new to backyardchickens.com. My name is Shannon, my husband is a retired Navy veteran and we have a 5 year old girl who is very excited to get some new laying hens as pets. We live on just under 5 acres of land at our family owned bed and breakfast in NC and are starting a new organic garden this spring. We thought having a few chickens would be a great addition to our new ventures. The pictures below are of our new coop and one of our girl holding a buff Orpington at the local "chicken man" farm.

Thank you all for your welcoming & kind words! We now have 3 buff Orpingtons and 3 Silkies. We even got an egg from our eldest Silkie this am. What a thrill!!
