New Chicken Family Members

We live in northeast Arkansas. My husband and I have a 17 y.o. daughter about to start her senior year We have 10 chickens that we got 1 week ago. We have 5 hen Rhode Island reds. And please forgive the lack of knowledge on the breed names. We are 1 week in. 2 white ones. The guy we bought them from said they were egg layers. (Ok?) with the 2 white ones we have 2 black and white ones that are dominicker. The rooster we have is a Bard Rock (sp). We have them as pets but we are looking forward to fresh eggs in early fall. We have young chickens so they aren't laying yet. Looking forward to help with our new chicken family!

It has been extremely hot here. From the noises he was making while breathing we thought he might have something in his throat but we checked that and couldn't see anything. Just him not crowing this morning was the first symptom.
