Hi, I’m in Maryland too. I’m up in Cecil. Facebook has backyard chicken groups for different towns and counties, and there are lots of posts for rehoming and trading animals. I’ve had luck with them before. Welcome to BYC!
There is also a forum in this site for rehoming animals. If you go to the list of forums, you should find it.

Yes, they do!

The same thing happened to us. I don't blame the store but the hatchery, who sent them as females/pullets. Though he is a BYM he looked like a pure bred BR cockerel and a handsome one at that.
