New chicken family

We have 2 Russian Orloffs, 2 Ideals, 1 Easter Egger and 1 Red Sex Link. They are all very good layers and we've been getting 5-6 eggs every day. I just love their little personalities! We also have two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers who are learning to tolerate their feathered friends!

Dogs and chickens. Not a thing you see everyday:)

I've never seen a Chessie out of the show ring. Do you raise them? Hope you keep them well fed, and they aren't hankering for a chicken meal.

Yes, they are good layers, especially the Red Sex Links, which are egg laying machines. Good luck with your flock.

We've had a total of 6 chessies if you count my brother's who lived with us for a few years. We find them to be smart dogs, very loyal and protective as well. They seem to love kids but can be slow to warm up to adults. Since I'm vegetarian, and my husband doesn't bird hunt much, none of our chessies have really been "bird dogs". So I'm hoping they become protectors of the hens - but in the meantime, the girls are in their own fenced in area away from the dogs!
