Hi, I'm a new chicken keeper. We just got our chickens in April. We lost some over the summer to chicken eating bastards, racoons and possums and cats. But not lately. We put up a driveway alarm and lost a lot of sleep. Added traps, lost more sleep. Now we have 15 hens and 6 cockerels. The hens are laying. And since I am a teacher we just added 7 new babies 2nd generation great having access to a school incubator. Today one of my cockerels attacked me. I am glad they do not have their spurs full grown yet. He is a very pretty black rooster but too agressive. The funny thing is that two other roosters, a big red and a bid naked neck both interfered to protect me. Anyone every heard of a rooster protecting a human? I look forward to meeting others who love keeping chickens.
