We bought a 1 acre property Aug of 2019, and have been rehabbing it ever since. We are finally at a point where we can get chickens this summer, so I'm starting my research! I knew you guys were the experts, so here we are.
I've wanted to have them for 15 years but wasn't able, so to say I'm excited is an understatement
.
We have 2 toddlers with another one on the way, and they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of chicks.
We haven't decided on breeds yet, and we might throw in a few ducks or guineas too.
We are working on producing more of our own food, so that's one reason why we want some layers, but mostly we want them to enjoy. I'm planning on using a chicken tractor and building our new garden beds with them, so the manure output is definitely high on the list of attractions too.
This will be our first step into owning animals as a family; my husband had chickens growing up so he's an old hand, but the kids and I are newbies.
