Everything I ever wanted to know about chickens....I can find here. I am a retiree and new chicken owner in Missouri. There's a hatchery not far away and I chose my 4 chicks based on articles I read here--a RIR, buff orpington, black australorp and a silver laced Wyandotte. Every aspect of their care I have also researched here. We live out in the country, and the chicken house, is a revamped and now closed in 5' X9' former donkey shed. They are 8 wks old and currently have a covered-over fenced in pasture area, but I hope to allow them to free range when they are larger.
THANK YOU FOR THIS WEB SITE. It is much appreciated!

Hi Sue, welcome to BYC!

BYC is loaded with information and helpful people, glad it's been of use to you. You have a nice flock of four with those breeds. It sounds as though you are totally enjoying them.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It's nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC, Sue. Glad you decided join our flock. I am a retired chicken owner as well who's been raising chickens for 50 years. I've had all four of your breeds at one time or another (still have Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps) and you have a nice mix of breeds. Australorps are my personal favorite standard breed as they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) have also made lap pets of our Buff Orpingtons. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC, Sue! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Yes BYC is sure full of helpful info on raising chickens. Now that you've joined, you get to meet and interact with all the friendly members too

Good luck with your flock! Sounds like they are lovely! I have buff orpingtons. They are my favorite breed. I've always wanted australorps and wyandottes.
