Hey yall! So glad to finally be apart of the party! I'll introduce myself here.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My wife and I are very new to chickens. She has a lot of expensive raising livestock and animals growing up in the local 4h and i grew up farming. We got our first chickens March 26th of 2025.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

So i have to start this question of by saying chicken math is real....🙄 While discussing how many chickens we wanted i told my wife 5... so we have 15 chickens now. Go big or go home am I right.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We have multiple chickens.
7-Bard plymouth rock (4 may be roosters but we can get into that later) 6 of them are 11 weeks old as of the time posting and 1 of them is 9 weeks.
4 - Rhode Island reds, 3 are 9 weeks 1 is 11 weeks. We originally had 2 at the 11 week but due to an unfortunate event... im sure you got the idea.
2 - white leg horns just for eggs and I think they are a pretty bird. They are 11 weeks old.
2 - Isa browns... my wife said they looked at her cute while in the store. They are also 11 weeks old

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

That is a big question, because who could put a favorite aspect on these adorable birds. But if I did I would have to say just sitting in the back yard with them while watching them run around.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

We are extremely outdoorsy people. We don't have any kids yet (hens the 15 chickens) and really dont have just 1 thing that ties us down. Camping, traveling, hunting, rzr rides, gardening, and fishing are at the top of our many hobbies list

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My wife is studying to be an occupational therapist (hens why we dont have kids yet) and I work at a gas plant turning cow manure into electricity. As of right now we rent as the housing market in Southern Idaho is crazy, unfortunately that means we dont yet have any other pets as i didnt want to push my luck with the landlord after getting approval to get chickens. We did get fortunate enough to live out of city limits in a little farm house at the end of the dirt road, a country boys paradise.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I stumbled on BYC multiple times while researching to get chickens but what really made me fall in love with the community is the first night we had our baby chicks one of them started to look pretty sick. Foaming from the mouth and very weak, I researched deep into the night trying to find solutions but nobody really had anything of worth. Until I found a thread on BYC that had some ideas of what to do as a last ditch effort and that's all we needed. It was game on at that point for my wife, she stayed up all night with the little one doing everything she could with the suggestion from you all. The chick looked to be improving the next morning but I had work and she had school, when we got home later that night against all odds the little one was alive and strong! Since then I have found a lot of very useful information here. With that being said as a first time chicken keeper I have question, they may be dumb but any help is something!

Thank you for your time
