Hi, I got my first chicks last September and they started laying in January! I have 3 olive eggers (one is a roo), a new hampshire, cinnamon queen, and asian black. I just got my second batch of chicks, a few cochins, barnies, easter eggers and blue marens. I would love to hatch some eggs from my rooster in the future. I love watching chickens interact, and be chickens... they do it with such gusto!

I am a stay at home mom of an almost 2yo and an almost 4 year old, so I decided to try homesteading for an outdoor hobby. I have a raised bed garden and I hope to get goats this summer. I have two rescue dogs (pit mix and hound mix) and was a science teacher prior to having kids.

I think "gusto" is a great word to describe how chickens live their lives; we should all embrace living with as much enthusiasm as they do!

I also like that you're planning on goats (I keep miniature goats), have a raised bed garden (same here) and that you have two rescue dogs (me, too -- and one is a lovable pit mix; the other is mostly crazy).

Welcome to BYC and best wishes with your growing flock!
