Hello from Ooltewah, TN! I am a first time chicken owner and have learned so much in the last 4 months. These amazing little creatures have brought so much joy to my family. We can't wait to continue to watch them grow up! 11 very loved chickens in my yard :)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you are enjoying your flock! They are so much fun to keep. Most people have no idea just how great it is to keep a flock of chickens. If you have any questions about anything, that is what we are here for.

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Hi there I'm new as well :) and I totally agree it's been such a wonderful rewarding job so far. I never thought it would be this interesting. Getting our first egg last week was so exciting and checking the nest boxes is like getting a little surprise each day. The kids love it. Good luck with your 11 :):)

Thanks! I can't wait for the eggs.....nothing yet but their boxes are all ready and hand crafted by our whole family. It has amazed me how much my kids and reluctant husband have joined in. We bought our house 2 years ago that already has a old barn with a decent coop and run. Finally got our babies this year. My husband who didn't really want me to get the chickens has completely redone the coop and is building a huge fenced in area for them. Who knew it would become such a family project! I love it!

Haha that sounds exactly like us. My husband really wasn't a fan either lol. But built the coop and now he's enjoying the few eggs we have managed to get in the past week :) my kids love it. We got the first unexpected egg last week after (8 weeks) I patiently gave up in the end and put it down to the cold weather.was waiting for spring time (winter here in Australia) Was cleaning the coop and then saw the egg in the nest box! The kids were so excited. Since then we have had 2 more one yesterday and one today so one of them has started and I'm hoping to now get one each day or so. The other two hopefully are not to far behind laying. I'm eager to buy more girls at our local market this weekend :) :) and get the flock up to a manageable 6 for us.

My kids can't wait. They are 11 and 15. I am surprised at how much they want to be involved in caring for them. Now they think we should add goats....hahaha! So, you are from Australia? How awesome! I know this sounds weird but we have an Australian Cattle Dog and she is soooooo good with helping me get them back in their pen in the evenings. I have to watch her close though because she didn't know what a chicken was till I brought these home. She has been right there with me though since they were chickens in the pool in our basement bathroom.

Being from Aus And owning one myself I can personally say they are wonderful dogs :)
Just ate my first egg home grown egg for breakfast it was amazing and rewarding at the same time :)
