Handle the chicks as much as possible; let others hold them as well (gently) so they get used to any and all humans. The more you handle them while they're young, the more they'll trust you and be more friendly when they are older.
And I agree with what others are saying here: the space requirements are WRONG.
Give as much space as possible - more space, happy face!
