New Chicken Mama Here

Thank you all so much for all of the nice welcome messages!! Here is a picture of some of my flock, we had to cool down a few, it got so hot down here in Texas again today. I hope they get used to the heat soon. Field Trips to the bathroom this week were not on the agenda! LOL Everyone is okay now, and back where they belong. If anyone has suggestions to help them with these 100+ degree heat indexes we keep having already in May, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to BYC! You can place a fan in their coop to keep the air moving. Frozen treats are another idea. When it gets that hot I take milk jugs full of water and freeze them, then I place them in a shallow pan of water in the chicken run. My chickens will drink the cool water, but they also stand in it to cool off. :)

What a great idea, thank you! I will freeze some ice tonight, I have an empty ice cream pail I can use. Will definitely start saving milk jugs! :) I bet they would love some frozen apple chunks tomorrow to peck at too. Your reply is very much appreciated. :)

Mine really love frozen peas and blueberries :)
Mine went crazy over the electrolyte ice water I made them today, followed up with some green leaf lettuce. They were literally standing and sitting around the air vent on the floor. Now I can laugh, earlier I was worried sick. LOL :) Tomorrow they get a fan and icy cold goodies before things get that bad. Thanks again so much. (Yay! no more indoor field trips to the bathroom, I hope.)
