New Chicken Mama Here

Happy New Year Everyone!
I am a new chicken mama and happy to join the community. We were introduced to backyard chickens from our neighbor who woo'd my husband by giving him eggs, inviting him over to hold them and he finally convinced to get on board. We went to the Farm Show in San Diego and we decided to give ourselves an Anniversary gift of a custom built English Cottage open coop/run from a family there (we have never been on vacay/bought gifts for one another cause $ so this was big). I posted a photo of it. Its perfect for our tiny backyard. A few weeks later I saw some 1 week old chicks at a local farm store and bought them: RIR, Brahma, Easter Egger, Lavender Orpington. They were 8 weeks old when the coop was delivered and assembled. That next weekend I bought 3 additional girls about 4 weeks old from a local breeder: olive egger, sky egger & crossback maran. It took a solid 2 months to introduce them into the flock but they all get along fantastic.
We got our first egg a few days before Thanksgiving and a few others began laying in December. RIR and Olive Egger crank them out. I am getting eggs about 6 days a week from each of them. Fun stuff.
I am so glad you took the leap to chicken land. You will have a pretty egg basket. They are goofballs aren't they?

Thank you. Yes, I am thoroughly enjoying them. Its fun to see the colors of the three eggs we are getting almost daily. Our Oliver egger is laying a pretty grey egg every single day along with the Rhode Island Red. They are machines! The Lavendar Orpington lays a pink egg 5 days a week. I guess its cause they are young? I cant wait to see what the others lay!
