New chicken mama in Northern California.

Hi all! I am Trish a mom to 4 kiddos and 9 chickens! My 4th grade daughter's class hatched eggs which started our journey. She brought home 3 of the hatchlings and we purchased 6 more pullets. I never expected that I would love my chickens so much! My kids are sort of over it but I love to walk out to the coop and watch the chickens.

this the coop my husband made. He converted a playhouse he made for our oldest daughter when she was little.

this is part of the flock with my 6 year old son.

I can't wait to learn from all of you experts!!

Welcome to BYC, Trish! That's a nice looking coop and run you have, but I would suggest running hardward cloth over the chicken wire. There are just too many predators that can either tear through chicken wire or pass through the openings in the mesh (even 1"). Looks like you have a nice flock and I would hate to see you lose them to a predator. Good luck with your flock.

Hardware cloth is "on the list" but hubby hasn't gotten to that yet. He did build on nesting boxes since this picture was taken.

Congratulations! I am also pretty new to backyard chickens and am amazed at how much we've enjoyed them! They all have unique personalities!
