Welcome to BYC!!I'm excited to be joining up! New to chickens and dove deep into the rabbit hole
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is my first flock! I'm new to chickens, but not to birds. I worked at a 'bird zoo' for 7 years, so I'm not totally foreign to bird care...it's different having your own at home though!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Chicken math has led us to 12 chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have three Buff Orpingtons and three Welbars that are 26 weeks old, and two Lavender Orpingtons, two Easter Eggers, and two Black Sexlinks who are 16 weeks old. They're all successfully integrated into a single flock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love their personalities! The ongoing chicken soap opera gives so much joy to our life at home. My husband is a farm kid and is new to chickens being treated more like 'pets', but he's come along with it. Also, of course the eggs are great.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to bake, make ice cream, hike, go birding, roller skate, play board games, garden, and sing and act in community groups. I also love going to concerts of all sorts, and other artistic performances.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married to a great guy who built our gorgeous chicken coop for us with his own two hands. We also have two old dogs, and spend a lot of time working on our old little house.
