Hey everyone! Here in south TX (south of San Antonio) After 2 years of begging for backyard chickens and hubby building a beautiful coup for me...I became a chicken mamma during 4th of July weekend in 2021. What an adventure it has been. Most days we let them run around the backyard. About an acre of land. When we first purchased we got 4 Barred Rock, 4 Ameraucana and 4 Buff Orpington chicks. All were promised to be hens. After a few weeks we found out 2 of the Ameraucanas turned into Roosters. They are beautiful birds but unable to find homes for 1 of them. We lost 1 Barred Rock to a small snake who got in but couldn't get out so regurgitate her out and then lost another 1 a week later to fire ants of all things. Once we figured out the problem haven't had an issue since.
Now we are 7 months in and we have hatched our first egg. Barred mamma and now it looks to be a male!
We have had so much fun on this journey and look forward to are fun with my chickens!
