OK I now have the 6 adult laying hens laying eggs so we are getting 5-6 eggs a day. When I got the chickens we got 6 adults approx 5-6 mths old AND we also got 6 chicks of approx 6 wks old. Can I introduce those chicks to the adult group or will the adults hurt them ? Can I introduce the chicks when they are 5-6 mths old ? OR am I just better to leave well enough alone and keep the 2 groups of 6 seperated for good ? It has been HOT here in eastern Canada too so I have the fan going and they are getting apples , celery, lettuce and any carrot peels or veggies we have rather then throwing in the garbage. I still haven't tried the watermelon yet tho ... I have only 1 hen that allows me to pet and scratch her all the others are skooting away from me when I try to touch them. I'm not too sure I'll ever get the opportunity to pet the others with their personalities. The hens came with their top beaks cut ??? Does that grow back and why do they do that ? The chicks beaks aren't cut tho -- is it because they are adults and don't want their new owners injured too soon ? LOL ?
Welcome to BYC from SE Georgia. To my knowledge once the beaks have been clipped they will not grow back, but I may be wrong. I am still new to chickens myself.
