New chicken mom from sunny S. Florida!!

What ever you paint with make sure its water proof on the inside so you can spray out with a hose. I just left my wood inside bare so I can spray with a power washer. no use painting if it's going to get sprayed off by the washer. If you plant any plants by your chickens do research to make sure they are not poisonous to them. You can also use a tarp for shade or buy Polycarbonate roofing Panels. Make sure the coop has good cross ventilation on all sides.

Got it!! A solar powered fan is on my list for sure. Unfortunately, I have no shade and have to get creative. Planning on growing passion fruit vine which is FAST growing to offer shade. I also wanted to paint the inside which is a dark treated cedar. What do you recommend for painting?? I want to go light to reflect the sun. For the flooring I was thinking of rubber or epoxy to keep things dry.

No shade! How can you stand being out side!😉 I live in Minnesota and absolutely hate the hot weather here and the humidity gets so high You almost have to be a fish to live here.😄 Spring and Fall are the best times of the year.

Hi everyone!! Expecting my new chicks next week, small family of 6! We live in the Fort Lauderdale area which is sub tropical with the days already in the 90's and its only April. We also have a ton of rain in the summer so, our climate is pretty unique. I have puchased a wood playhouse to transform into our small coop and will be building a large run for our girls. Looking forward to hearing suggestions and learning from you all. Thanks for having me!!View attachment 2092239
