New chicken Mom here!

I don't know that we can part with Chicken Little. He is a sweet chicken and we have become attached. He snuggles and is very affectionate. I would definately have more of this breed. We purchased our "nuggets" and ended up with 5 Silkies and Chicken Little. I have been trying to figure him out for such a long time and was so excited to finally figure him out. It is hysterical watching him march around the yard, free ranging.

So I do have a roo then.. this one is about 8 weeks old now. The last one was taken at about 4 weeks old. I was hoping that I had a pullet. How loud do the roos get? I appreciate your help. I am still a newbie trying to be the best chicken Mom, but we live in the suburbs and keeping our fluffy babies under the radar.

The way your 4 week old pic looks is exactly what the one i assume is my male is like. So what i observed (and im new too, so its sort of hunches).. is to me, even if the comb was tiny.. if it look well defined, like could see each of the spikes and they didnt look smashed in, my hunch was those were the males.. and the ones where i could see maybe a couple spikes, and then nothing, or smashed or really off, i thought those were the girls. So you might mistakenly assume a girl is a boy, but not the other way around. Ill look through my early pics to see if i can find one of minnie when she was 3 days or less so you can see what i saw. Of course, i thought she was a silkie mix at the time 😂 -- ok no pics cuz her face was hiding cuddled with the silkies! Here she is at 1 week.. the comb was totally non existent. Ill look for more of my others for you tomorrow..

You might try a rooster collar for him.. he would need a teenie one, just try making it yourself so it fits well. Google them and youll see different options/ideas.. usually using velcro.

I have been seeing them and definately going to try one. So looking at your picture makes me wonder... Chicken Little didn't have a comb at all when we got him either. It developed after a few weeks. We got 2 chicks with orange beaks. One is a silkie mix and then we have Chicken Little. After a LOT of research, I found him to be a little porcelain D'Uccle. So stinking adorable, loveable and sweet. He loves snuggles and so funny to watch grow. My favorite is how he marches around the yard. He is so curious. Out of 6, I believe I only have 2 pullets, so we will definately get more chicks next year. I wouldn't mind a d'uccle silkie mix if they breed. Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it! Good luck with your babies! 🐔😊
