How old are your chickens?

If they're laying, I would personally use layer pellets as their regular feed aside from what they naturally forage, just to ensure they get all the nutrients they need to be healthy and laying.

I know there are lots more knowledgeable people here, some that have more experience in feed.

Thank you so much for your reply. They are 9 months old.
And thank you so much for the condolences. I really got quite attached to these birds. They have so much personality. In CT where I am there certainly are a lot of predators. I try to keep a watchful eye on my flock but foxes and hawks-- well- they seem to be even *more* watchful! I am thinking about a dog who can free range in the yard with them. And when the weather gets warmer, I work from home and can move a desk into the yard.
