Hi there! My name is Jess and I am proud mom to my first flock of six chickens. They are 10 weeks old today. They are all different breeds except for my two "easter egger" chickens. The one chicken in question who I call Miss Jelly Bean has been skiddish and stand offish since being tiny. Now the chicken has very long tail feathers that he/she will fan out on occasion and is the only chick who will not hang out with us and just does his/her own thing. The picture on the bottom is his flock mate who is very friendly. The first two are of him/her. This chicken will chase off dogs and boss around the others. Im sure it is to early to tell but any ideas on if this is a rooster would be very appreciated. This one is just different from the rest. : ) Thanks

So far they all look like pullets to me, because they don't really have big combs and waddles.

(I'm not really an expert at guessing chick genders yet, so my guess could be totally wrong tho...)

Back in the day when I had chickens we would always look at the tail feathers. If they arched they were usually roos if they were straight they were hens. Do you have a pic of the tail feathers?

Thank you guys...The one on top is her with the long tail feathers, the bottom pic is my other easter egger. I guess at this point it is mostly her personality that sets her apart! I appreciate the feedback! Ill wait another month and see how they change!

Easter Eggers are usually pretty easy if you know what to look for. Hatchery sourced birds are hybrids, so judge sex based on tail feathers can be misleading, since there can be a wide range in tail feathers depending on what has been added to the lines. Males usually have well developed, bright red pea comb with three rows of 'peas.' Gold base-color cockerels will always have dark red shoulders. Since these two both still have a small, single ridge of 'peas,' and no dark red feathering on their shoulders; they are both female.
