I have just begun my backyard flock. I purchaed eight fertilized eggs through the mail and have been incubating them. On day eight I candles them and it looks like I will only have 1 chick hatch. Crossing fingers for more! I am looking forward to being a chicken Mom!

Howdy:welcome:frow Excited :yato have you join the family. Enjoy your time here at BYC!:)
Congratulations on your 1st time hatching.
That's about normal for shipped eggs.
If you get a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs, that's fantastic!

Welcome to BYC!!!! :frow:weeVery happy you joined! Hope you have goodluck on your hatch! There are a lot of articles out there on how to hatch eggs! If not a lot hatch you can always try again a see about a different article. Usually it depends on the humidity and where you live. Great luck!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Good luck with your hatch! Its hard to be sure at day 8. Shipping is rough on eggs. Did you allow them to rest 24 hours before setting? Have your incubator up and running 24 hours before setting? All these things and more are factors on a successful hatch.

Keep us posted and good luck! :)

They did rest for 24 hours before I put them in the incubator. I did't run the incubator for 24 hours prior only 6. When I placed eggs temp was 100 degrees with 49% humidity. I guess it is all a learning experience!

The important thing is you don't set them in a cold incubator. You did good! :-)

Thank you, I really tried!

My first hatch wasn't the greatest. I can't remember how many I set but only 3 hatched. With each hatch you will get better at it. Hatching has a huge learning curve. :)
