Hi all I have recently gotten chickens and have fallen in love. We got hatchlings in April and are at the point where we are finding homes for our roosters. (Can’t have roosters where we are).

We have two types of birds, chanteclers and beardless silkies. We had 8 chicks and I think we are about to narrow it down to two. Out of four chanteclers I only have 1 pullet. And out of my silkies I fear the same. Looking for some help or opinions on my beardless silkies sex. They are headed to a sanctuary today, as I want to give them a chance to be roosters. So if I can figure it out I’ll post their photos in the right thread and see what you guys think.

That is a very high ration of pullets to cockerels!

I would keep three. If one dies than there will still be two. Chickens are social creatures and do not do well without a flock
I know I thought I had a poor ratio. I can only have chickens where I am, and I’m so sad to have to give the Roos away. I will be taking two hens from the sanctuary that they are going to, as I don’t think two hens is enough especially in the winter.

Perfect! 4 is a good number to have in a flock

Hey! :welcome! I hope that you enjoy this site as much as the rest of us do! I have learned SOOOOO much from this site, and hope you do to! I just LOVE silkies!:love You should post some pictures, i'm sure that we'd all love to see them! Posting pics will also help us figure out the gender. Good luck!:thumbsup

Absolutely! I am so happy to be a part of this. I never thought I would love them this much. I did post pictures in a breed and sexing forum but I’ll pop the silkies up on here as well.
