1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’ve had chicks less than a month.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 21? I know that is insane!! I have plenty of room for them to be happy chickens though.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Amberlink, Light Brahma, Dark Brahma, Isa Brown, Bard Rock, Golden Comet and Black Australorps
Getting a rainbow of colors to decorate the yard!!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Fresh eggs, insect patrol and entertainment - they are so darn cute!! We are planning on building them toys to play on too.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I ride horses (trail and some sorting), new puppy coming in a few days to fill an empty spot in my heart, sketching, gardening (organic and vegetables)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I share my home with a very forgiving husband of 30 years. He helps me take care of all the fur critters when I am at work. I am a full time paramedic and my shifts are 24 hours at a time. So, without the helping hand from my husband it would prove very difficult. I also have two daughters who share my love of animals but they are grown and on their own. Two grandkids that I am teaching to get dirty and have a blast!! We were out yesterday digging up worms to feed to the older chicks.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found you guys on a facebook post I am pretty sure. I need all the help I can get as I am brand new to the chickens. Looking for plans to build a coop and options for letting our birds have as much of the property as is safe. They have all been vaccinated for Marek's and they are fed a medicated starter feed. At the moment they live in one of our spare bedrooms in a couple of large totes with heat lamps on them.
