Tell him the fighting chickens and the health problems caused by a crowded run are not worth the money saved.

If the expense is a problem, I'd limit the flock size to no more than 8.

Seriously, crowded living conditions cause most of the problems that new members ask advice about.

Hi everyone! I will be starting my chicken adventure in less than a month when my babies arrive! Located in Upstate NY and have about 16-20 chicks coming!

I am thinking about getting a 170 gal trough to use as a brooder. We are having a 8x8 coop with an 8x12 run attached being built for them. My boyfriend owns a tree business so the bedding will be wood chips!

I appreciate any tips/ tricks / advice as I am preparing to start this new, exciting journey!
