My name is Michelle and my daughter and I are having so much fun with our new girls. We have 5 hens that we got about a month ago. They are about 9 weeks old and I'm learning as I go!

Welcome to BYC, Michelle. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi Michelle, welcome to BYC!

Kids and chickens just seem to go together, it sounds like you're having a good time with them. What breed(s) do you have?

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

It's nice to have you join us!

Thanks everyone! We have 3 barred rocks, 1 australorp and 1 Buff Orpington.

I've had all three of those breeds (along with dozens of others), and those are all three great breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard, breed as they are extremely hardy in both heat and cold, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of ours; as they did with our Buff Orpingtons as well), and excellent layers of large brown eggs.)
