Hi, I have been reading, studying, etc....on BYC since April. Decided it was time to introduce myself! My name is Deb and I have 30/12 week old chickens! HA! Told my DH that I wanted chickens (I meant like 4 or 5) He went to TS and brought home 41!!!!!

Guess I should have made myself clearer, huh? HA! I love my chickens! 11 of them were Cornish X. They are now in the freezer (eaten 3 of them, but that's another story for another day:). The information I have found on this site has been a LIFE SAVER - literally! Can't wait to meet a few fellow chicken lovers! Have 11 White Leghorn (8 are roos), 3 BO (2 of which are roos), the rest are red sex-link (Star?)

Hi and :welcome

Glad to have you here!
41. :lau Yea, I agree, you might want to even out the roo-hen balance a little, the recommended is 1 roo for 10 hens. :) Although it's up to you.
I have red stars. They are fantastic layers.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D

Thank you! I live in the country on 10 acres. Hasn't been a problem yet....... Looking for a new home for some of the roos. Sorry about the info on the 3 chooks:) Guess I shoulda kept that part to myself

But I am LOVING my chicks and can't wait for the eggs!

Thanks Kevin! Fierlin- thanks for the info! wasn't sure what the "correct" ratio of roos/hens was, but knew I didn't have it right! Absolutley LOVE my Red Stars!! They are the friendliest. Leghorns are skittish, BO's are curious & ready for treats, but would rather I not touch them!

Yea, they're pretty awesome.
BOs are pretty friendly. I'm sure when they get to know you a bit they'll let you pat them. :p
