Hi all! My husband and I are originally from farm-town midwest and, after spending 26 years living in suburban Atlanta, decided we missed the farm life and bought a few acres out in the boonies. The previous owner already had a good coop built, and we've always wanted chickens for fresh eggs, so here's our chance!

We've lined up our first purchase - two beautiful cream legbar pullets - that will be ready next weekend, so today we bought all the supplies we need to get started and will get the coop ready for the girls to arrive next week. This week I plan to find local sellers for a few more pullets, I hope to find an olive egger, a buff orpington, and either a welsummer or marans-type so we can have the chocolate colored eggs.

I'm one of those people who research EVERYTHING before jumping in, which is how I found Back Yard Chickens. There's a lot of great advice and people willing to not only explain things but post pictures and videos. This place looks like an excellent resource for my questions, so thank you for accepting my request!

When I'm not working, I'm taking care of my family including my very spoiled chocolate lab, and can be found outside on a clear night with my telescope searching the skies.
