Good afternoon!
My family and I live on just over 12 acres in rural SC. My husband is a programmer who works from home and I’m an elementary school teacher. We hope to someday be completely off grid and self sustaining. We have four children/young adults, six dogs, 2 rabbits and now 6 chicks.
As soon as the outdoor coop is complete, we are adopting 4 additional hens from a friend who can no longer keep them due to neighbor complaints.
I was super relieved that all of the babies survived the first night, as I had not done enough research to feel confident yesterday. I just finished reading, cover to cover, Grit’s Guide to Backyard Chickens. I feel overwhelmed and excited. I already want to add some ducks and geese to the flock, but am terrified of predators. I want to add a rooster, but hubby says no. What are your thoughts?
I look forward to learning from y’all!
