New Chicken Momma

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Best advice I can think of is...First, give them as much room as possible, never crowd chickens as they can kill each other, give them twice what anyone tells you. Next, build the coop yourself, something you can walk into, prefab coops are not for keeping chickens. Make SURE to use adequate ventilation in the eaves of your coop, never closing off all air movement no matter how cold it gets. And on the lines of the coop, don't allow them to jump down off high roosts, they will develop leg and limping issues, keep roosts low. Also, keep things clean...clean litter, clean water daily, clean dry food, don't skimp and forget to pour fresh water daily in clean waterers. And finally, don't worry over them too much, they will do just fine if you offer up huge spaces, keep it clean and dry as possible.

Oh and a big wire dog crate can be your best friend....works as a hospital cage and jail, don't be afraid jail a bully.

Good luck with your babies and welcome aboard!
