We are pretty much new to chickens. The reason we got into chickens is because a Rhode Island Red appeared in our driveway. So we took her in and decided to get more the following week we got an Easter Egger, Lavender Orpington and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Two weeks later we got 2 Salmon Favorolle's but sadly a bobcat got to them so we decided to get a lot of chickens a few weeks later. Currently we have 4 Black Australorp's, 2 Blue Plymouths, 2 Buff Orpington's, 2 Speckled Sussex's and 1 Production Blue, we think she's a Blue Orpington. The funny thing is though is that we thought that both of our Blue Plymouths were hens, they're not.. We saw that one of them towers over the other chicks we quickly saw that we have a Blue Plymouth ROO that'll grow to be 10-11 lbs. So that's a total of eleven chickens but were getting 4 more tomorrow 2 Wyandotte's (Not sure what kind they have yet) and 2 Cream Legbar's. In the following weeks we're going to be getting an Olive Egger, an Easter Egger and another Rhode Island Red a total of around 18-20 chickens. Our favorite aspects about raising backyard chickens is that they're therapeutic for us and that they love food scraps and we get great eggs and all the breeds we got lay about 300 eggs per year. We found out about BYC by searching up all of our chicken breeds before deciding which ones to buy, we haven't known about BYC that long. What finally made us join the BYC community is that we'll need all the help and facts we can about our chickens and it'll be awesome to get help and help other beginner chicken mothers and fathers.
P.S: The Blue Plymouths and Black Australorp's are 1 1/2 weeks old and the Buff Orpington's, Speckled Sussex's and the what we think is a Blue Orpington are only 2 days old and we've integrated them and they're all doing just fine.
