Just purchased 6 Buff Orpingtons & 2 Ameracaunas 11 days ago. All were said to be 11-12 months & laying. Got 3 eggs(2 brown, 1 green) 2nd day. Since then have had 2 more green and 1 brown. Seems 6 eggs in 11 days by 8 hens is a little light production for hens of this age. Is this normal after moving to new location? They get plenty of food & water and the coop was designed for 12+ hens. It has been pretty cool here. Could weather be contributing? Thanks for any help, advise or encouragement.

It could be cool weather or are they starting to molt? I know my girls, which are younger and not ready to lay, are shedding a few feathers as it heats up.

the change has alot to do with it will take them some time to adjust and get back into there daily routine

It is normal for chickens to slow down the egg machine when they are moved. If the move was stressful to them they will specially take a longer time before laying again.

they may not lay for 2 or 3 weeks. when we purchased our first four girls, they were (as we were told) about a year old. and they layed the first 2 days then nothing for 2 weeks. then once they were happy in the new coop and run, then the four of them gave me 3 eggs a day! be patient, and give them lots of treats!

Thanks Everyone! I'm glad to hear that this is a common issue and will strive to be a little more patient with my expectations. (Not one of my strong suits!) Am really enjoying watching our new girls and planning out our new self sufficient, sustainable lifestyle.
