New Chicken owner (Again)

Howdie !! I am a new chicken owner (again). I had chickens at the old house since we had a barn. Now we have moved and I am in the process of aquiring some more. I have metal siding that my son gave me that is 3x8 feet sheets. I am going to use this for the new coop and then build a run using cedar posts for corners. Cant wait to get started. I am still trying to figure out how to build a simple 8x6 coop. Surely it cant be that hard. I even have been saving 2x4s for framing. Will post pics soon (I hope) Oh and I only want 2-3 hens. no rooster..

Welcome to BYC... If you are looking for coop ideas check out the coop section. You can literally spend hours there... I know I did/have! You can build a coop... all you need are the materials, a few basic power tools and on occasion a "helper" or as I call it, 'grunt labor'. How much you will need the assistance will depend on how "grand" a coop you want to build. My grand kids and in-laws call my coops (I now have 3) chicken mansions.

When you begin building be sure to post pictures here so we can all enjoy the progress along with you. I don't dare build another coop, so I must live vicariously through others...though my hubby did bring home another wooden crate that is just the right size for a chicken tractor or brood house...hmmmm

Yeah! So exciting! I would think you need to insulate that metal, and try to find a plan, or build with what you have (in other words, minimize cuts and so waste).

But so much fun!

Ya gotta find a way to insulate. Gunna work on that but it's not going to be big so a solution should be easy. It is actually going to be on the south side of a solid fence so the north wind won't be an issue. However the west sun in the summer will be. Plan to put a tree there for shade but..... Until then. I have started a group on Facebook called Crazy Chicken Coop if any of u want to join just let me know and I will add u. Hopefully it will broaden the chicken reach !!!
