new chicken owner and member HELP!

What an impressive Rooster he is!

I haven't seen anything like that on mine. Thanks for showing me!!

Well, I will need to find a "friend" for my lonely chicken. You know, my young hen that's red with black underneath resembles your Roo's colors! What breed is that??

Maybe that's the kind of hen I have, which is lonely.

Now, should I find a hen to match it's breed, or it's age that will accept it?
It seems to like my little Pomeranian dog at the moment!!

I think you have mixes two hens and may be one that is two young to be sexed but looks like a young hen or pullet to me.

Welcome and good luck,
Henry

They all look like hens to me. How old are they? They usually start laying at about 5 months old but it varies with breed/individual and time of year. Maybe the others didn't start laying yet? Are you sure it's just one laying? Or maybe they are laying every other day?

Well, that's a good question, too.

My husband bought them for me Sunday ( 5 days ago). I don't know how old they are, but the one with the most white on it has been laying, because some of the eggs have white feathers on them.

Out of all 3, I get one, big, brown egg a day, so I believe only the one hen is laying.

The Big Red Hen is very bossy, and has the most developed fleshy crown and (those things that hang under the beak), but I don't think she's laying. She's obviously more developed looking and slightly bigger than the white and red hen who is laying.

The youngest is the darkest one, and I happened to know that she is about 2 weeks out from being 5 mos. old, and does not lay yet.

I have to get her a companion since the other 2 hen-pecked her away.
She "koo's" like a pigeon alot, so I'm thinking that may mean that she's lonely??
