Hi I am about to get my first 3 chickens and I just wondered if anyone could answer a few questions for me:

1> Can mixed chicken breeds live in harmony together ???

2> If I put a fertile chicken egg of one breed under one of my chickens of another breed when it hatched would they treat it as one of their own ???

3> Is wing clipping as easy as it looks ?

Thanks for your time any answers would be appreciated.

1.yes
2.yes
3.yes
when clipping wings just make sure you dont clipp them to close.or they will bleed.

And wait until you have a broody chicken before you try the fertile egg thing.

I like that....short, to the point, and very enabling:weee

I will get all buffies next time, the barreds are noisy and pushy.
four works better than three, one can die and two is lonely number if you are a chicken.....

have fun

Hi, the man I am getting them from has 2 breeds, I cant remember the exact names but there is a standard brown laying hen and some sort of rock chicken that has feathers that look like oil in water, very skinny. We are going to go for the Brown but I was going to get some eggs from the rock and sneakily let the browns hatch them.

Different breeds can definetly get along with one another. I just wouldn't' put some tiny breed of chicken, like those quail ones, with some really big chicken like a road island red. I have bantam Brahmas with two Americans, and they get along wonderfully!
