Hello, I am new to all things chickens! I lived on a farm as a small child but other than that I am relying on everything I can learn online! My husband and I have two boys (15yrs and a 9 month old). We bought a new house on 5 fenced in acres 3 years ago and have just decided to try our hand at raising chickens. Also on our property we have a 7 yr old Great Pyrenees and a 2 1/2 yr old Old English Sheepdog/poodle mix. So far we have 5 mixed breed chicks (not really sure what they are) that I hatched out myself. I got them from the “fun and funky” hatching eggs that I ordered from “My Pet Chicken,” and in July we will have some Silkies, Polish chickens, and Naked Necks. We are working on training the sheepdog to not want to chase them lol... we never leave her alone with them, but I am hopeful that in the future that can change (I would LOVE some advice on accomplishing that!), she would never hurt them on purpose but definitely would by accident if she trampled one! She caught a baby bunny one time and just played with it, she didn’t actually hurt it at all! our Great Pyrenees couldn’t care less, he’s basically just a big old lovable lump of fluff who occasionally barks at the wind. I am looking forward to sharing stories and learning as much as I can from all you seasoned chicken owners out there!
