Hello all,

We've had several friends in the area get involved with chickens for eggs, and it sounded quite interesting. Being an engineer, I had to look at this from many different angles - so that's how I got introduced to BYC - by searching online. Thanks for the great community and so many wonderful tips and answers!

We got 5 chickens on 2/25 from a local backyard breeder: RIR, Buff Orp, BR, Domique, and Red Star. She said they were 2 weeks old, so that puts them at 6 wks now (except for the BO, which I believe was just a couple of days old when we got her). I'm amazed at how fast they grow.

We also have a couple of dogs, a cat, and some fish. Our puppy is a Vizsla and she is one of my hobbies - we're going to our first conformation show this weekend. I take her along to participate in a couple of my other hobbies: hiking and biking.

I'm in the process of building our coop from the free purina plan on this site. Again, thanks for all the wonderful insights!

Hi Cobb,
We are also from GA (Athens area). We are new to the site also. BTW love the Vizsla, they are beautiful dogs!

ecary2012 - yes, Vizsla's are beautiful; glad you agree ;-)... Okay, I have to brag a little - here are a couple of picture of our Lexi: one pointing, and the 2nd "fishing" at a lake.
