If you're close enough for it to be worth the drive, Mintana Mills is a great place for feed. The layer is a smidgen higher protein, they do sales occasionally and every 11th bag is free. So for example, if you get 10 bags of layer or ten bags of turkey starter, the 11th of that brand is free.

Fish meal is an excellent protein source but you need to be very careful about mixing your own chicken feed. There's a lot more to it than just getting the protein content correct. It's rarely more cost effective to make your own feed than it is to just buy a good commercial mix.

Well, that's kind of a relief! I'm a single mom to 2 adopted grandchildren at age 70 and the last thing I need is more to do. lol. I get a pretty good price on a feed mix made by a local farmer, distributed to other farmers, so I'll stick to that.
