Most silkie breeders cannot tell the sex until the chick is 4-5 mos. old. Anything younger and you're likely to end up with cockerels.
My friend has 2 silkie and 2 serama chickens as house pets. They watch TV with her in the evening, hide behind the sofa when strangers come- keep peeking out, then come out when people leave. It's really funny, they don't realize people can look over the back of the sofa and see them pacing back and forth. They all are adorable. When she leaves the house they lay by the door with the family dog and wait for her arrival.
You may want to check out the various silkie threads (there are several) Just put "Silkie thread," in the search box and they should pop up.
