Hello all! I've just became the new owner of a lavender orpington flock. 7 hens and 4 roos. All are just over 2 months old. I've been researching chicken keeping for a while now. Seeing which breeds would be good to start with. My mom recommended this site and I'm glad she did. So much info and resources. I look forward to learning and growing with the community.

Also, I will be posting the roos for sale/trade soon if anyone is in the Phenix City al/ Columbus ga area.

Welcome!! Super informative!

What made go with that breed?
Orpingtons were said to be a very friendly breed that didn't mind being handled. Decent egg layer and all around good starter breed. A batch of lavenders came in and I bought the lot. So far I haven't been disappointed except with the number of roos I've ended up with.

That's not always a bad thing. I was torn between Orpingtons or Silver Laced as far as temperament and production.
