I'm definitely going to look into the blue laced reds this spring. The silver laced are gorgeous as well. That's not always a bad thing. I was torn between Orpingtons or Silver Laced as far as temperament and production.
One of my girls has the genetic feather thing. Can't remember the name of it but her feathers look tattered. shes a sweetie tho.Hello! Welcome to BYC!!Can't wait to see pictures! I have a few LO's and they are very pretty birds. I dislike that their feathers seem so fragile, though.
I got them from my local tsc. They only get one shipment a year in the fall from what I've been told.I hatched out some Blue Laced Reds earlier in the year that I sold to a friend, awesome birds. Where did you obtain your lavender Orpingtons(for the benefit of those in your area)?
Thank you! I've re homed one already. Yay!!!
Welcome! Good luck rehoming your roos!
I'm not interested in raising chicks and I live in an area where roos would cause issues in the neighborhood. So re homing is my preferred option. I don't wanna put them in the pot either. Maybe in the future I'll have a bachelor pad. It's an interesting idea to look into.Hi!Welcome to BYC! I love Orpingtons! Until this year I was partial to Buff Orpingtons and Australorps, and now I have 3 young Lavender Os. One cockerel for sure, one pullet for sure, and one I'm not sure of. They are about 8 weeks old right now, so in a few more weeks I should know. I think you will love your flock. Have you thought about keeping a bachelor pad for the cockerels? I'm going to try that this time. Then conjugal visits with the girls. I think it's easier on the girls, but I'll be looking for a lot of guidance myself because I haven't tried it before.
