Good morning! I live in Deer Park, NY and just got my first chickens less than a week ago. I'm so excited about them! My husband and I were toying with the idea of getting them for a little while and then we met someone who has a exterminating contract to remove the "wild" chickens from the racetrack. He doesn't like killing them, so he rehomes them! That made up our minds and we are now the proud owners of 5 "wild" chickens. Love them! Hopefully we'll be getting a few more soon too! They're all mixed breed and being a complete novice, I couldn't even begin to guess the mix of breeds or ages. All I know is that they are still a bit too young to be laying eggs yet. One is much younger than the other 4 and I can't wait until she is big enough to be moved into the coop with the others. If anyone has any suggestions on breed / age / sex - please let me know! Thanks!

! Pleased you joined our flock! As wild chickens you might consider worming them and treating them for parasites - who knows where they've been. The Learning Center link below is a great place for you to pick up the ins and outs of chicken rearing. Best wishes!

Post some individual pics of each in the What Breed Or Gender is This? section. I had a quick look and I'm thinking pullets, but there's one I'm unsure about. They are beautiful though and they do look quite young. I wonder where they came from.

Thanks! I actually did post in that section... The common concensus seems to be that no one has any clue what they are, though someone did suggest that the two larger ones appear to have some game hen in them. Also, everyone seems to agree that the larger ones are pullets. I haven't asked about the other 3 yet, but I'm crossing my fingers that I'm rooster-free. Not allowed roosters here and I'd hate to have to give any of them up.
